According to Agence France-Presse, the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality announced that local authorities had killed about 190,000 chickens after being diagnosed with H5 bird flu in two poultry farms.

100,000 chickens were slaughtered at a poultry farm in Hekendorp outside Gouda, and 90,000 chickens were exterminated in Whitmarsum, Friesland.

The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture has announced that there are no other farms within a one-kilometer radius of the contaminated area, both of which have been cleared to prevent further outbreaks of bird flu.

In late October, Dutch Agriculture Minister Carola Schotten announced that all commercial poultry farms should be kept indoors after observing the H5N8 bird flu in two dead.
