It is a white to pale yellow-brown powder. Vitamin K functions as an anti-hemorrhagic (anti-bleeding) factor. This vitamin is sensitive to light, heat, and alkaline pH, and it is available in several forms. The most common commercial forms are menadione sodium bisulfite (MSB), menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite (MPB), menadione nicotinamide bisulfite (MNB), and menadione sodium bisulfite complex (MSBC). The active menadione content varies among these salts and should be considered during formulation.
